Black Tap NYC – Burgers, loud music and big portions in Midtown

On day four of our trip, we had a reservation at Black Tap, a burger spot known for being super-hip and famous for its over-the-top milkshakes. In our family, milkshakes are always a winning concept, so expectations were pretty high.

With 4.5 stars on Google, we were hopeful this would be one of the better meals of the trip.

Not fancy – but definitely cool

Black Tap isn’t the place to go if you’re looking for a quiet dinner. The interior is simple and industrial, with hard wooden benches, dark tones and a trendy, street-style vibe. The music is loud — intentionally. If you prefer a calm, conversation-friendly atmosphere, this is not the spot for you.

The restaurant is popular, and when we arrived, it was packed with people and a solid line forming outside.

The food: Good, but not the best we’ve had in the US

The burgers were good, but to be completely honest, we’ve had better in the US.

I went for The Texan, while others tried The Champ with blue cheese. The flavors were solid, the patties were well-cooked, but it didn’t quite reach the “wow” level.

On the positive side:

The prices were surprisingly reasonable — a rarity in New York these days. For once on this trip, we finished a meal without feeling robbed. Portions are generous and you really do get value for money.

Milkshakes: Tasty, but we didn’t make it to the famous ones

We did try the regular milkshakes, which were delicious. But we were simply too full to take on the legendary signature shakes topped with cake slices, cookies, brownies and all sorts of madness. Next time!

Conclusion: A solid meal with good vibes

Black Tap delivers what it promises: good burgers, fun energy, huge portions and a lively, upbeat atmosphere. It’s not the best burger we’ve had in the US, but it’s absolutely worth a stop if you enjoy loud music, milkshakes and a place that won’t empty your wallet — which is rare in NYC.
