Two nights in the English seaside resort in the middle of summer. We chose The Beach Hotel in Brighton without being very impressed.
The hotel is a two star hotel, but based on the reviews we actually had some expectations when we arrived at The Beach Hotel. First of all - it was a bit tricky to find, especially since there was another hotel located at the next street with a similar name. When we realised we were not going to stay at the hotel we first arrived at - it was a moment of relief.
The Beach Hotel Brighton is a slightly older hotel, typically English with a tiny lift, narrow hallways and lots of noise. There is noise between the rooms, towards the hallway and perhaps especially between the floors. Take this into account when choosing hotel. At the same time, the hotel offers large family rooms with a double bed and two single beds. A little cramped for space with the whole family at once. It may also be worth noting that the floor is sloping, and you have to walk about a bit "uphill" towards the bathroom.
Sleeping comfort
For us, sleeping comfort is the most important factor whole stayinh at a hotel. That means light, noise and temperature along with the quality of the bed, mattress, duvets and pillows. Let's start with the positive: The beds were amazingly good! In fact the best beds we had on our entire week long stay in England. The hotel is located just to the right of the picture and next to British Airways i360. The rooms have no air conditioning, and a stay during summer in the south of England can be hot and humid in the evenings. Opening the windows helped little or nothing, and the noise from the main road makes it really uncomfortable having the windows open. One morning there was a lot of noise from the room upstairs. No proper curtains, so the room gets a bit bright, very early in the morning.
Bottom line is that in the middle of summer, this hotel may not be the best choice in terms of sleeping comfort, although the beds were wonderful.
The bathroom is relatively large, worked fine, but here the cleaning could have been better. Like the rest of the hotel and the room, it needs a bit of renovation and upgrading to be more attractive. It is also worth to mention that there is no fridge or minibar in the room.
In the summer heat it was a bit annoying not to have access to cold drinks for example. They also do not offer wifi in the rooms. You have to go down to the reception area for internet access.
Standard breakfast
Breakfast was pretty standard, english breakfast. Pretty good, but by no means more than it should be. For us Norwegians, the lack of proper bread is always a "thing".
The service was nice, especially the man in the breakfast room. The breakfast room was a bit crowded at the most popular times of the morning.
Nothing negative to say about the location. 50 meters to the beach and British Airways i360. Restaurants close by, shops right up the street and generally very central. The hotel does not offer car parking. There is paid parking around the hotel, but we chose to park in an NCE parking garage a few blocks away.
Brighton is sometimes an expensive city to stay in, and has many hotels to choose from. The Beach Hotel Brighton costs about $150 a night including breakfast, which we think is a bit overpriced compared to the quality.
