Hotel review: Amerikalinjen in Oslo

We have heard a lot of positive reviews of Amerikalinjen, a boutique hotel in Oslo. Finally we got the chance to check the hotel out ourselves, during the weekend Norway reopened! This is our Amerikalinjen hotel review.

Spending some nights at Amerikalinjen, you will definetly not get disappointed. Actually this is the best hotel we have tested in Norway.

Amerikalinjen is centrally located right by Oslo Central Station. This area is not the best in Oslo in our opinion, but it is close to everything you want or need from Oslo. If you arrive from Oslo Airport, Gardermoen, it´s just about 100 meters from the Airport Express Train (Flytoget).

Entering the hotel you will not get into a large fancy reception area as many other hotels have. The reception desk itself is probably the only thing at Amerikalinjen being minimalistic.

Quiet room

Check in went smoothly and efficiently. No questions about any requests for upgrades or though, which we found a bit strange. If they had some spare rooms they might get a bit more out of our stay? On the other hand, the hotel might have been fully booked this weekend.

In our hotel bookings we always request a quiet room, far from elevators, vendor machines or stairs. This is to avoid a lot of traffic just outside the room. At Amerikalinjen we got a room facing the backyard and as far from the elevator as possible. And the room was very quiet!

The room itself is not huge, but they have jused every square meter well. A large double bed, a desk with a chair, a large closet and enough space for two adults.

Lovely bathroom

On the other hand, the bathroom is huge. Or more specific: The shower is gigantic.

A lot of space, nice classic tiles, good soaps, shampoo and conditioner, hair dryer og an not least: Proper quality towels!

Inside the closet minibar, wine and whisky glasses, a kettle, safe and of course space for your clothes.

The room itself delivers as promised, but what about the most important thing staying at a hotel: Sleep quality? What about light, sound, temperature and quality of bed, bedding and pillows?

The "most" negative is that the Amerikalinjen runs a double duvet. But otherwise it is a really good bed that may feel a little hard for some, with two good pillows.

Perfect sleep quality

The temperature can be set and you can get it cooler if you want. Or hot if desired. Remember it takes a while yo adjust the temperature. We set the temperature on arrivalt and when we returned a few hours later, the temperature was perfect for sleeping.

Large and good blackout curtains make it completely dark in the room. In addition, there is smart technology associated with light. You can put on some some light, dim it if you want, and if you go into the bathroom in the middle of the night, only a small amount of light will go on and not wake up your sleeping partner. Brilliant!

With a room far from elevators and less traffic in the hallway we did not experience noise from outside the room. Unbelivably great not to be woken up by people dragging suitcases in the hallway.

All in all, this is close to perfectly delivered sleep quality by Amerikalinjen.

Breakfast buffet to the table

We were excited about the breakfast, which in connection with corona restriction was different from the usual buffet. The buffet was served on a tray to the table. And you will get what you want, and miss nothing. The breakfast lives up to the expectations as well.

At a standard serving you get some bread, cheese, ham, scrambled eggs, bacon, lettuce, cucumber, tomato, avocado, yogurt with granola, some fruit and smoothie. In addition, you can of course get coffee, tea, apple or orange juice. The scrambled eggs can be replaced with fried eggs or omelette if desired.

Everything tasted very good, with good ingredients so you do not really need anything else. After this part of the breakfast you will get some "dessert" of American pancakes (of course), croissant and some biscuits.

Breakfast will keep you full until lunch, do not think about it!

Amerikalinjen impresses!

At the hotel there is a bar, Pier 42, which can be a cozy break after shopping or before dinner. The restaurant, Atlas, was only tested for breakfast.

Amerikalinjen is highly recommended, although it is not the cheapest hotes in Oslo. Expect a thousand Norwegian kroner more than most of the "regular" hotels. However, it is not disproportionately expensive, in fact it is worth every penny.

Amerikalinjen is pure quality.

PS! The stay is not sponsored or paid for by others.
